CHRIS ALLAN PEARL DRUMS | PORTRAITS | 2025

I first met Chris Allan at the 2024 Cozy Powell Birthday Bash. He was one of five drummers chosen to play Cozy’s drum kit. We must’ve said literally 5 words to each other as I grabbed him for a portrait shoot at the very end of the show - but I must’ve left an impression as a few weeks later I got a direct message from him with an enquiry.

Chris was to be added to the artist pages Pearl Drums website, and therefore needed some professional shots that featured him and his Pearl Drum kit. I met him at a local show he was playing with The Story of Guitar Heroes and we had roughly 45 mins to get something in-between Chris’ other duties that afternoon.

Using a 400w wireless flash and soft box, I positioned Chris so that he was prominently lit, and used a depth of field which meant the Pearl logo was clear on the drums behind him. The image above I took with their web designer in mind - they’d need a landscape hero image for the page which showed Chris and the drum kit. I also wanted to show a bit of the background and add context - that we were on a stage, and Chris is a working musician.

We also took a couple of traditional portraits, and had a bit of fun with a flight case…

Hope to work with Chris again soon - such an easy subject!
